At a time like this, scorching
irony, not convincing argument, is needed. O! Had I the ability,
and could reach the nation's ear, I would today, pour out a fiery
stream of biting ridicule, blasting reproach, withering sarcasm,
and stern rebuke. For it is not light that is needed, but fire;
it is not the gentle shower, but thunder. We need the storm,

Today I viewed someone I have never really watched, by coincidence
I turned on the tube and there was Montel Williams discussing
his new book Climbing Higher. The book I knew of, and the fact
he uses medicinal Ganja for his MS. But this was straight up
advocating on prime time mainstream TV and that would be almost
historical. I believe he blew the doors off the place with very
credible references in the audience and not one member of the
audience scoffed or even questioned or commented against it.
Not one. Patients testifying and Doctors testifying. Very moving,
especially for television. Almost total truth though he did slide
into politics a little. I can't blame the medicinal users for
feeling more worthy because of their illnesses. I've helped them
get it a few decades now and have all the compassion I can for
them... but, I'll never change my feelings of the fact that healthy
people using shouldn't be in cages either. That religious or
re-creational use has absolutely nothing to do with the medicinal
benefits, and can in no way shape or form, change the physical
properties of Ganja used to treat a wide range of symptoms for
a wide range of illnesses. Or that anyone would give up legal
Pharmaceuticals that worked, and suffer through their symptoms
just to smoke pot that didn't work, quasi legally. Its always
been an either or, is or isn't and now finally its all being
corroborated on nationwide television. It was informative TV
and I always thought that was mostly an oxymoron. I'm waiting
for the transcript. Hope this is replayed. Maybe then someday
they'll realize Hemp doesn't change its tensile strength or versatility
because of users either. The Ganjawar exists because people profit
on it, it has very little to do with the dangers of using Ganja
because the "dangers" are in the prohibition. If there
were no profits in this war, no one would show up to fight it.

DES MOINES (AP) - Dennis Kucinich
presented the spiritual leader of the Lakota tribe with a ceremonial
blanket Sunday, saying that as president he would work to heal
wounds between the government and American Indians.
Looking Horse said America
needs a president who will honor the original intent of the Constitution.

Kucinich, one of nine candidates
seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, met with Chief
Arvol Looking Horse during a diversity celebration at a downtown
hotel, blocks from where a Democratic debate was to be held later
in the evening.
"I pledge to you a presidency
that embraces the spirit of being of America long before it was
established as the United States, but an America which connects
with the values of Native Americans to the Mother Earth,"
Kucinich told Looking Horse.
The Ohio congressman said
he would work to heal the breach that exists between the government
and American Indians.
"There is much so healing
to do," he said, noting their long suffering at the hands
of the U.S. government.
Looking Horse, who gave a
blessing in his native language, said America needs a president
who will honor the original intent of the Constitution.
"We need a person who
can make a difference and bring peace and honor back to Mother
Earth," he said.
Looking Horse, of the Eagle
Butte, S.D.-based Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, is the 19th Generation
Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Pipe of the Lakota, Dakota
and Nakota nations.
A diverse crowd of about 100
people, spanning all ages and ethnic groups, crowded into the
hotel meeting room to hear Kucinich and Looking Horse.
The crowd was entertained
by "Democracy in Creation" a group of singers and dancers
from Santa Cruz, Calif., touring to raise political awareness
among young voters.
Jenise Hibbeler, 35, a massage
therapist from Des Moines, set up a massage table in one corner
of the room, giving massages to raise money for Kucinich's campaign.
"There are a lot of people
not feeling nurtured in the world and when you do feel nurtured
you're less willing to 'GRRRR,'" Hibbeler said, growling.
"He wants to nurture us as people. He truly is a loving,
caring and passionate man and he really works from the heart."

in Canadian history, they face a second problem: how to dispose
of 30,000 marijuana plants. "Something this large, there
is no normal practice," said Barrie Police Sergeant George
Cabral. "That may present some difficulty in itself."
The plants will either be burned or buried. But there's so much
stock, the police aren't exactly sure how they should proceed

In the late '60s and early
'70s, desegregation prompted an explosion of private
schools.
The local anti-establishment
movement prompted one.
Founded in 1971 by self-proclaimed
dreamers and hippies who saw education as a means of social change,
The New Orleans Free School was one of many "free"
schools nationwide that sought not to keep the races apart, but
to bring them together. Racially balanced and rule-free, these
"open classroom" schools were centered on the individual
child. No grades. No desks. No textbooks. No classrooms.
Most free schools fell by
the wayside within a year or two, but the New Orleans version
is still operating three decades later. With one great irony:
The school that was started as a protest against public education
now operates as a New Orleans public school, probably the only
public free school in the country.
First-time filmmaker Mika
Buser-Ferris chronicles the 30-year history of this one-of-a-kind
institution in "The Free School," an engaging documentary
that won the 2002 New Orleans Film Festival's Louisiana Filmmaker's
Award. Free School alums need not fear a dry, textbook take on
their freewheeling alma mater. Buser-Ferris, a former Free School
student himself, shows a creative hand at storytelling, with
a lucid, chronological storyline, judicious use of archival clips
and footage and in-depth interviews with students, teachers and
parents. Original music by Matt Johnson plays to advantage as
upbeat background.
The New Orleans Free School
tale is timely, not only as a historical document, but also in
light of the contemporary debate in education. "No child
left behind" could well have summed up the Free School philosophy,
as idealistic teachers sought to maximize the potential of every
child in their care.
The experiment in non-structured
education went through many growing pains. Total freedom brought
creativity, but also a lack of discipline. The term "chaos"
pops up in more than one interview. But it was financial restraints
that ultimately pushed the Free School where no similar institution
had gone before: into the arms of the New Orleans Public School
system. For more than two decades the two have maintained an
uneasy truce, as the Camp Street school attempts to maintain
its open-learning concept and the system demands structure.
These days the New Orleans
Free School still doesn't give grades or mandate a dress code,
but you will find textbooks, desks and a structured curriculum
there. The racial balance of earlier years has given way to a
predominantly African-American population, and the concept of
small numbers (29 students in 1971) has yielded to the demands
of an urban location, with hundreds of students today.
But the spirit of social reform
remains, and the school continues to coax creativity and push
mental processes. As one former student says on camera, "I
couldn't spell, but I was very politically aware."
"The Free School"
looks back, and by doing so raises important questions about
what lies ahead.

Ballroom last night was incredible.
The winning ad, "Child’s
Pay," by Charlie Fisher, 38, of Denver features young children
working in difficult service and manufacturing jobs -- washing
dishes, hauling trash, repairing tires, cleaning offices, assembly-line
processing and grocery checking -- followed by the line: "Guess
who’s going to pay off President Bush’s $1 trillion
deficit?"
Charlie Fisher is an advertising
executive who was a registered Republican until the end of the
first Bush administration, in 1992. He is currently on assignment
in Denmark and flew in to attend the awards ceremony with his
cameraman, P. Dreyer.
"I was thrilled just
to participate in this contest," Fisher said. "When
we finished editing ‘Child's Pay,’ I felt it was nice
-- maybe a little too nice. Perhaps I learned that you don't
have to paint a bulls-eye on someone’s forehead to be effective.
Most importantly, my Republican father said this when I told
him I was making an ad for this contest, not knowing what his
reaction would be: ‘I am proud of you for taking part and
acting in the world around you.’"
